Dear Mr. Winston,
I responded, via Twitter, to Agency Spy’s article because, like you, I was in complete disagreement with them that PR is ineffective without advertising. My stance was that PR fosters relationships, and can do so without advertising revenue.
Like you, I, too, feel there’s more to PR than a pitch and an article. I’m reminded of things companies have done that left an impression on their communities. I, too, truly believe we’re in the business of building relationships not just with journalists but with vested stakeholders.
I just wanted to say that I loved your response to AgencySpy’s article, and had to take notes. You could have responded by defending PR and why it’s better than Advertising, but you didn’t.
Instead you gave a little nudge to me and others in this profession to wake up and stop being so messy.
